How to create an FTP account in cPanel ! | | Gotmyhost
1. This content is about creating an FTP account in Cpanel. FTP user accounts have direct access to your website’s files. They can upload, download, delete, and change permissions on most files in the directories they have access to.

Most FTP programs, such as FileZilla, WinSCP, Transmit, or Cyberduck (funny name, great tool), are desktop programs. You install them on your computer and connect directly to the website.

One of the benefits of using an FTP account in cPanel is you can create FTP users that have restricted access. That allows you to give someone access to only directories that you specify. Perfect for granting access to one part of a site, but not others.

In order to provide access to your files via FTP, an FTP account in cPanel will need to be created.  Luckily, creating an FTP account in cPanel is easily accomplished in your cPanel account.

Log in to your Cpanel or create an FTP account in cPanel
2. Search FTP Accounts or click FTP Accounts from the file section of your cPanel as below seen – to create an FTP account in cPanel

3. You will need to fill in your FTP account in cpanel information in all fields.

  • Login: Enter the desired username for your FTP account. It will be combined with your main domain name to create the full username. For the purpose of this example, we enter in the Login field., so the full Username will be itsme@khaledistiak.me
  • Password: enter a strong and secure password in this field for your FTP account. You can use Password Generator for this option. The system will automatically generate a password. If you forget your cPanel password
  • Password (again): To confirm the spelling, enter the same password here..
  • Directory: when you create an FTP account, it is limited to the directory you indicate here. cPanel will auto-fill an assumed directory based on the FTP username. You can erase everything after khaledistiak.me/ and provide the directory you would like the user to access. You can also type a single / and the user will have access to your home directory (anything outside of the khaledistiak. folder).

PLEASE NOTE: You can determine the level of access for a user. The FTP user will not be able to navigate outside of the specified directory. However, he/she will be able to access all files and subfolders inside that folder.

Important:

  • You can only access this interface if your hosting provider has enabled FTP access for your account. You can use the File Manager to manage your site’s files instead.
  •  The amount of disk space an FTP user can access can be adjusted or left as Unlimited.
  • The system evaluates the password that you enter on a scale of 100 points. 0 indicates a weak password, while 100 indicates a very secure password.
  • The Directory text box defines the new FTP account’s top level of directory access. For example, if you enter example in the Directory text box, the FTP account can access the /home/$user/example/ directory and all of its subdirectories.
  • The system automatically populates this text box with public_html/domain.tld/account, where account represents the username that you entered in the Login text box and domain.tld represents the domain you selected in the Domain menu.
  • Some web hosts require a minimum password strength. A green password Strength meter indicates that the password is equal to or greater than the required password strength.
  • Click Password Generator to generate a strong password. For more information, read our Password & Security documentation. Click on Create FTP Account
